6 Tips for Creating Good Habits
Sometimes people think that achieving goals is simply putting things in a diary and that's it, and it's not like that, because if you write it down in a diary but don't have the habit of checking it, then that's where the achievement of your goal ends, and what will happen is that you will be delaying your plans, in this article we present 7 things you can do to improve your habits and make them work in your favor:
1) How long does this habit take you?
If you're starting a new habit and think you can dedicate an hour a day to it—for example, checking your schedule for 15 minutes in the morning—start with just 2 minutes and gradually increase this until you reach 15 minutes, and then you can adjust according to your time and needs.
2) Make it your priority to make the habit
The longer you put off doing a habit, the more likely you are to not do it. You not only run the risk of not wanting to do it, but also of procrastinating and making excuses.
3) Create your own formula
All habits begin because something triggers them, something in your brain says it's time for X thing... To create the habit, for example, of organizing your week on Sundays, create the habit of having an excellent brunch-type breakfast that reminds you that organizing your week comes next.
4) Schedule reminders
Use technology to your advantage. You can use apps like Reminder, phone alarms, Trello, or Google Calendar to schedule your habits, time, and everything else you need to remember to do what you have to do at the right time.
5) Self-evaluate
Start observing your habits and notice which times or days you struggle with them the most and why, or which habits you struggle with the most and the reasons why. It would be great if you kept a journal to record how you felt, what benefits you saw, or what you need to change... remember, the fact that you started a habit means you want to change. Track that change and find meaning in it every day.
6) Step by step.
One day at a time, if you couldn't do it today, you'll do better tomorrow. Refocus and move forward. Make the changes you need to make, adjust them, apply them, and remember to write down all your progress. After this habit, follow the next one. This way, you can stay in constant evolution and in tune with yourself.
