How to make a bookend for books (and... diaries)?

Hello!

I'm bringing you an idea on how to make a bookend that's suitable for holding your notebooks and planners, so you can organize everything neatly to reduce clutter on your nightstand or desk .

Shopping list:

- a 10cm wooden board, which can be softwood or hardwood. Engineered wood may not be suitable, as it usually comes in thinner sheets and may not provide the necessary support.

- screws,

- hacksaw,

- electric screwdriver

- rules

- pencil for measuring and marking

- spray varnish to finish our craft.

- 120-grit sandpaper

Instructions: Time 1 hour / Difficulty easy

1. Take a set square and a pencil to mark a triangular shape on the wooden board. The triangle should have a height and a base of 10 cm.

2. Next, use the hacksaw to cut the triangle out of the wooden board. If you prefer, you can use a handsaw, but it won't produce as clean a cut as the one we get with a hacksaw. Next, measure and mark two rectangles on the wooden board. The first piece should be 10x16cm and the other 10x30cm. Then, cut the two rectangular pieces out of the wooden board.

3. Using the electric screwdriver and two screws, secure the two wooden rectangles to form an "L".

4. Use two more screws to attach the triangle to the middle of the L-shaped boards.

5. Use 120-grit sandpaper to sand all sides of the wooden bookend. Make sure you remove all imperfections and continue sanding with 280-grit sandpaper to smooth the edges and surface of the bookend.

6. Spray on the varnish and let it dry for 3 hours before applying the next coat. Spray three coats of varnish in total, waiting 3 hours between each application. Then, you'll need to wait 8 hours for the wooden bookend to dry completely.

7. Finally, choose a flat surface, such as a bookshelf, and place your books and planners on it using the bookends to hold them up.
