How to organize yourself when you go on vacation?
When you're going on vacation, it's important to organize things beforehand so that when you return, you'll have a specific order and know where to start. Below, we share some tips to help you disconnect from work and enjoy your vacation in peace:
- Let people know you'll be on vacation. People tend to be more understanding when they know the reason for your absence, and it's also a good way to set boundaries. You can start by setting up an automatic notification for emails you receive announcing your departure and return dates, and letting your closest colleagues or collaborators know.
- Identify the essentials . It's important to make a list of what absolutely needs to be done during your absence. Leave instructions on how to do it and who will follow up on it. Preferably, assign someone else, so you can check the status of the task with someone who will have all the information about the process. Anything you think can wait until you return should be scheduled first on a list of pending tasks and establish a date for it. Try to avoid leaving everything scheduled the same day you return. Give yourself some time to "get there" and get your thoughts in order.
- Work in batches . Days before you leave, or even weeks or a month before, prepare and have most of your to-do list ready. This will allow you to leave with peace of mind knowing you left things in order.
- Delegate. Remember to delegate those tasks that are important to complete during your absence and that also contribute to the proper functioning of your business, venture, or home. This includes payments, meetings, and follow-up.
- Set aside a few moments each week to address urgent matters . If you're an entrepreneur, CEO, or the owner of your home, you can't just disappear. We know that (although if you need to, we won't judge you :D). You can set aside a few moments just to check in and make sure everything is in order. You can even designate a single person on your team to filter the information and send you a message or email with the daily or weekly update.
We hope these tips help you get organized before you go on vacation!
We'll soon be releasing a logbook that you can use to write down all the great things that happened during your trip!
A hug,
Vanessa
