Tools to Get Organized
- Create To Do Lists
This is one of the best options for knowing exactly what to do and avoiding procrastination. A good way to start clearing your brain—that is, writing down everything you have pending—simply write down everything: your goals, resolutions, grocery shopping, what you need to fix at home, what you need to throw away, what you need to do to finish that report for work or college, etc.
This way, you will have a super advantage and it is to relieve the "pressure" of having everything in your head, then calmly, you can organize this list of tasks as it suits you best, for example, by topic (work, university, family, hobbies), by term (short, medium or long term, even tomorrow, this week, this month...)
This way, we'll know exactly what tasks or next steps we need to take. For this tool, we suggest several ways: you can have a notebook or notepad, or Post-it-style notepads that you can then stick on a corkboard or on the wall.
- Have an agenda
You can have a single planner to write down everything: whether professional or personal. It also depends on your job; you may have one for work and another for your personal matters when you're not there. There are several types of planners, some that you can date yourself according to your needs and use, and others that already come with the date pre-set. The important thing is that you feel comfortable using it, that it's in a theme and colors you like, that it makes you feel confident, or that it projects your full potential when you place it on the table during a client meeting. Here, we suggest you take your time and choose wisely, because remember that you'll be using it for a year.
- Planner or Schedule of activities
This will help you keep track of your activities; you can do it weekly, monthly, quarterly, semiannually, or annually. Some planners come with this built-in tool, and it's very useful for getting an idea of how to organize your short-, medium-, and long-term goals and resolutions. It will help you avoid being overwhelmed during a week when you have appointments or things to do that aren't typical of your day-to-day life, and you'll be able to plan ahead to ensure things are well-prepared in other aspects of your life.
For example, while reviewing your weekly planner, you realize that next week you have a doctor's appointment, a college exam, and a work meeting that involves travel. This will put you on alert to organize your important weekly needs and to schedule that this week you must include fruit in your weekly shopping to take on your trip, that you should not accept your friend's lunch invitation because you have to study for the exam, and that you must get home early the day before the doctor's appointment to have dinner early because you have to go 12 hours fasting. This and more can be done by a weekly planner, imagine a monthly or quarterly planner... what it will do for you. You will be able to have greater control over your goals, finances, projects, and a balance in your personal life, your love life, and your health.
